Community Service Fall 2007
Food Bank
Assisted in accompanying a fellow food bank volunteer and
gathering donations from local groceries. These markets include Vons,
Albertsons, and Ralphs. Bread was the primary donation from these stores. This
bread would first be categorized, boxed, and then returned to the food bank
warehouse. The bread was then unloaded, mounted on a scale, and documented by
form of weight. Lastly, the categorized bread was allocated to different areas
within the food bank. Some of this bread is donated to other agencies that cater
to less fortunate. However, much of this bread is transported to various
locations within the

: Hi Jonathan,
UCSB LEAPS
I just wanted to give you both the club schedule for this semester so you could pass it along to any SACNAS students who might be interested in volunteering with the clubs. The two Girls Inc. clubs need volunteers less than the other three clubs. Santa Barbara Junior High is also starting a tutoring program on Mondays, I can let you know next week whether or not we're interested in having drop in volunteers for that program.
The club schedule is as follows:
Monday - 3:00-4:30
3rd and 4th graders, Cesar Chavez Charter School, downtown SB
Tuesday - 4:00 - 5:15
3rd and 4th graders, Girls Inc., Goleta
Wednesday - 2:30 - 4:00
7th and 8th graders, Santa Barbara Junior
High, downtown SB
3 :00- 4:30
3rd and 4th graders, Cesar Chavez Charter
School, downtown SB
Thursday - 4:00 - 5:15
3rd and 4th graders, Girls Inc., downtown SB
We're also hosting a family science night at SBJHS on Monday, November 20th and will be happy to accept volunteers for that as well. Please tell anyone interested in participating to contact me, either by e-mail or phone, and I can help them figure out how they can best help the clubs.
Thanks so much!

Banquet 2006:
We are close to having our yearly Banquet May 20th! The reason for this banquet is to celebrate the current members accomplishments in their major. Free food and faculty will be present at this event. Presenting awards to those who are moving on to a 4-year University. Its a great way for parents or family to see how much important it is to have support group with them. They get so see first hand to what exactly it is required of them in a science related field. Also will have special guest speakers like John Romo, Congressmen Pedro Nava, and Councelmen Das Williams. Be hosted by Dr. Arnold and the S.A.C.N.A.S officers.
Fighting Back Mentoring Program
Another way for you to give back to the community if an elementary school is not for you. You will be trained to be a mentor to any one in the 6th to 9th grade students around Santa Barbara County Schools. Please contact Saul Zevada and his information will be located in the flyer and make sure you let him know that SACNAS of SBCC informed you about the community service opportunity. More information is can be accesed if you click here. Application Start up is here.
